Cedar Waxwing Sighting

Flock of Cedar Waxwings flying through Orlando

Not a rare bird, but a rare sighting. The Cedar Waxwings come through every year and they always come in large flocks. You never know where they’ll show up, but they love fruit.

This group was eating it’s way through the abundant berries from this tree in Mead Garden, Orlando, and we were in the right place at the right time.

They can survive on fruit alone for months, but they also eat insects to fulfill their nutritional needs. So, they can be seen swooping into trees and bushes for fruit but can also do a great job hunting for insects near or above water sources.

Cedars have a smooth appearance with what looks like a mask on their face. Look at the picture below that makes one look like he’s wearing shades!
